Chamomile is good for you: discover the benefits of Valverbe Chamomile Herbal Tea

Have you ever had a cup of chamomile tea?

Most likely yes, as chamomile tea is one of the oldest herbal infusions of all time—an age-old remedy passed down by grandmothers. Feeling anxious, tired, dealing with a stomachache or toothache? A warm cup of chamomile tea is commonly believed to ease these discomforts.

And indeed, chamomile tea has countless benefits and very few contraindications—mainly related to excessive consumption.

Chamomile tea, whether enjoyed warm or hot, is a perfect infusion for all ages (infants, children, the elderly), for any physical condition (it’s no coincidence it’s one of the most common drinks served in hospitals and healthcare facilities), and at any time of day or night (depending on your personal needs).

In this article, we’ll explore chamomile tea in depth—an infusion particularly valuable to us at Valverbe—so you can fully understand what’s inside each cup, its health benefits, and where it comes from.

Not all chamomile infusions are created equal

Cultivation methods, harvesting, and drying techniques all make a difference. Valverbe is among the few producers in Italy cultivating organic mountain-grown chamomile.

Our chamomile fields lie at the foot of Monviso, where we harvest the flowers at peak bloom and dry them using cold-drying technology, an innovative method that preserves the aroma and beneficial properties of the plant. That’s why Valverbe’s organic chamomile tea is a product of undisputed quality.

Let’s now explore the properties and contraindications of chamomile, its health benefits, cultivation process, and the best times to drink it.

Chamomile properties and effects

Chamomile is truly a flower with incredible healing properties. Its best-known effect is its sedative power: chamomile is often recommended in states of anxiety, stress, and nervousness because of its antispasmodic properties, which help relax the muscles—thanks to the presence of flavonoids and coumarins.

Chamomile’s calming properties are also beneficial for the digestive and intestinal systems. A warm cup of chamomile is helpful for acid reflux, intestinal cramps, muscle spasms, digestion issues, and menstrual pain. Chamomile supports healthy bowel function.

Recent studies have also shown that chamomile can have a positive effect on blood sugar control, helping to reduce blood glucose levels.

There are many healing properties packed into a warm cup of chamomile tea—a drink of wellness for both body and mind, especially when the chamomile is of excellent quality, like Valverbe’s!

Chamomile tea benefits

Chamomile tea offers numerous health benefits that apply across all age groups. Thanks to its calming and antispasmodic effects, it’s an effective natural remedy for various stressful and fatiguing situations that can affect different parts of the body.

Chamomile provides relief from anxiety, fatigue, nervous tension, digestive discomfort, menstrual cramps, and intestinal spasms. It’s also a trusted ally for a restful night’s sleep.

Chamomile has many other uses beyond internal consumption: once cooled, the infusion can be applied externally for its soothing and anti-inflammatory effects, especially in cases of dermatitis, conjunctivitis, or gingivitis. In such cases, simply apply a chamomile-soaked gauze (once cooled) to the affected area.

Chamomile tea for infants

Chamomile tea is often recommended for infants and is used as early as the first months of life due to its calming effects.

It helps relieve gas, supports relaxation, and therefore encourages better sleep. For this reason, it is also considered safe during pregnancy.

When it comes to infant nutrition, it's important to remember that national and international guidelines recommend exclusive breastfeeding until six months of age. However, when this is not possible, chamomile tea can be a helpful, soothing option for both infants and young children.

Served warm and without sweeteners, chamomile tea promotes muscle relaxation and a general sense of well-being.

Drinking chamomile tea for weight loss

Can chamomile tea help you lose weight? A cup of chamomile before meals may help increase satiety, while after meals, it can aid digestion thanks to its calming and antispasmodic properties.

Like other herbal teas, chamomile can be incorporated into a healthy lifestyle, supporting overall wellness. It helps the body eliminate toxins and promotes relaxation, both physically and mentally.

Organic chamomile: how Valverbe grows its chamomile

Valverbe’s chamomile tea is made using organic chamomile grown at the foot of Monviso, in northern Italy.

Our company operates a short supply chain, from cultivation all the way to the final packaged product. We grow our chamomile fields with strict adherence to organic standards, harvesting flowers only when the ligules (white petals) curve downward and the yellow core is full and vibrant—almost ready to burst.

Drying is done using Swiss-made state-of-the-art cold-drying systems, known as open-cell drying. This process preserves the cell membrane, and thus the active ingredients, aroma, and flavor of the flower.

This is what makes Valverbe’s organic chamomile tea a truly premium product.
